what we do
Blue Carbon Advisory & Consultancy
Not every organisation entering Africa’s blue carbon space needs to build restoration capacity from scratch. Many need trusted technical guidance instead. Twende Green Planet’s Blue Carbon Advisory & Consultancy programme provides that guidance: helping organisations, investors and government partners navigate carbon markets, measurement standards and partnership structures with integrity, in line with both the UN SDGs and the African Union’s Agenda 2063 blue economy priorities.
Africa’s carbon-credit potential is real, but so is the risk of poorly-structured deals. We help partners understand the landscape before they commit to one.
- Orientation to voluntary and compliance carbon markets relevant to Africa
- Guidance on blue carbon methodologies and eligibility
- Risk assessment for proposed blue carbon investments
- Introductions within our own funding and partnership network
Credible carbon claims rest on credible measurement. We advise on building MRV systems that would hold up to independent scrutiny, drawing on the same discipline behind Mikoko Pamoja’s own verification.
- MRV system design appropriate to project scale
- Guidance on recognised blue carbon accounting methodologies
- Site-level data collection and reporting practices
- Support preparing for third-party verification
- Review of existing MRV systems for partner organisations
We help partners structure agreements that protect the communities whose ecosystems generate the carbon value in the first place. Integrity isn’t an add-on, it’s the point.
- Due diligence support on proposed blue carbon partnerships
- Guidance on fair, transparent community benefit-sharing structures
- Review of partnership and funding agreement terms
- Safeguarding and reporting infrastructure advisory
- Connections to government and technical partners, including Kenya Forest Service and KALRO
Where a partner organisation wants to build its own internal capacity rather than rely on ours indefinitely, we help build it.
- Training for partner-organisation staff on blue carbon fundamentals
- Workshops on community-led restoration models
- Guidance adapting the Mikoko Pamoja-style ownership model to new contexts
- Ongoing advisory relationships beyond a single engagement
- Referrals to Twende Green Planet’s own technical partners, including KALRO
What the Advisory Programme Covers
From First Orientation to Ongoing Partnership
Advisory engagements draw on four connected areas of expertise:
Orientation to Africa’s voluntary and compliance carbon markets.
Measurement, reporting and verification system design.
Structuring agreements that protect community benefit.
Training partner organisations to build their own capability.
Why This Works
Advisory Grounded in Our Own Restoration Work, Not Just Theory
We advise from direct, on-the-ground experience, running our own nurseries, restoration sites and MRV reporting, not from a purely academic or consulting background.
- Grounded in Twende Green Planet’s own restoration and MRV practice, not theory alone
- Drawing on Kenya's own verified blue carbon model: Mikoko Pamoja, at Gazi Bay
- Access to our existing network: Kenya Forest Service, KALRO, and our funding and partnership pipeline
- Community benefit-sharing integrity built into every recommendation, not treated as optional
Why This Works
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is this advisory service for?
Organisations, investors and government partners entering or already working in Africa’s blue carbon space who need trusted technical or partnership guidance.
Do you help with carbon credit sales directly?
No. We provide technical and partnership advisory; we do not currently operate as a carbon-credit trading intermediary.
What is MRV, and why does it matter?
Measurement, Reporting and Verification: the systems that make a carbon claim credible enough for independent scrutiny. Without solid MRV, a carbon project’s numbers can’t be trusted by funders, buyers or regulators.
Can you help review a partnership agreement before we sign it?
Yes. Due-diligence and agreement-term review is a core part of this programme, with particular attention to community benefit-sharing terms.
Do you offer training for our own staff?
Yes. Capacity-building workshops and training are available for partner-organisation staff who want to build internal blue carbon expertise.
How is this different from Twende Green Planet’s restoration programmes?
Our restoration programmes (Mangrove Restoration, Seagrass Restoration, and others) are hands-on delivery on Twende Green Planet’s own sites. This programme is technical and partnership advisory for other organisations doing their own work.
