Who we are

An African Institution for Restoration, Resilience and Blue Carbon

Twende Green Planet is an African social enterprise, registered in Kenya and headquartered in Nairobi, with a mandate to scale community-led blue carbon and climate resilience solutions across Africa. We restore mangrove and seagrass ecosystems on Kenya’s coast using the same community-ownership model that made Gazi Bay’s Mikoko Pamoja the world’s first verified community-led blue carbon project, and convene Africa’s development sector through The Global NGO Stakeholders Summit.
Technical Rigor

Restoration built to the same community-ownership and monitoring standard as Kenya’s pioneering Mikoko Pamoja project.

High-Integrity, Always

We prioritise credible baselines, ecological monitoring and transparent evidence, and do not promise carbon credits simply because restoration occurs.

Community-Led

Every programme is designed and delivered with the communities who steward the land and coastline, from site selection through long-term monitoring.

Pan-African Reach

Headquartered in Kenya with a mandate to scale community-led restoration and blue-carbon solutions across the African continent.

Our Vision

A Restored, Resilient African Coastline

Vision: An Africa where healthy ecosystems underpin resilient communities, thriving blue economies and credible climate action. On Kenya’s coast, this means mangrove ecosystems protected as climate infrastructure and carbon markets that operate with high integrity and equity, with the communities that steward them sharing directly in the value they create. Kenya’s own coast set the stage for this vision in June 2026, when Mombasa hosted the first Our Ocean Conference ever held on African soil, where roughly a third of new commitments targeted Africa’s blue carbon and nature-based solutions, in the same direction as the IUCN-led Great Blue Wall initiative restoring mangroves across the Western Indian Ocean on Mikoko Pamoja’s own community-benefit model.

Our Mission

Scaling What Already Works

Mission: To develop, implement and scale community-led ecosystem restoration and blue-carbon solutions across Africa by connecting ecological science, local stewardship, measurable outcomes, partnerships and appropriate finance. This includes building the partnership and funding infrastructure that makes that scale possible. This work is grounded in UN Sustainable Development Goals 13, 14 and 15, and in the African Union’s Agenda 2063, whose Goal 7 commits the continent to environmentally sustainable, climate-resilient economies and a sustainable blue economy.
