International Cooperation & Blue Carbon Partnerships
Twende connects African implementation priorities with international knowledge, technology, research, climate cooperation and sustainable finance. We engage diplomatic missions, international cooperation agencies, foundations, research institutions, conservation organisations and responsible businesses around practical opportunities for ecosystem restoration and resilient blue economies.
Restoration & Science Cooperation
Mangrove and seagrass restoration, blue-carbon science and MRV, and marine and coastal monitoring, the technical core of Twende’s work, and the areas where international research partners and technical agencies are best placed to collaborate.
Climate & Community Cooperation
Climate resilience and community stewardship and livelihoods sit alongside the technical work, recognising that durable restoration outcomes depend on the people living with these ecosystems, not on technical intervention alone.
Knowledge & Capacity Cooperation
Technology transfer, training and technical exchanges, and research partnerships, so that international cooperation builds lasting local capacity rather than one-off project delivery.
Enterprise & Finance Cooperation
Blue-economy enterprise, sustainable finance and project preparation, the pathways through which international cooperation can move from shared priorities to implementable, fundable programmes.

how we engage
A Cooperation Proposition, Not a Claimed Relationship
Twende does not name individual embassies or imply formal diplomatic relationships unless that relationship is documented. What we offer instead is a clear institutional cooperation proposition, grounded in real restoration work on the ground in Kenya, that allows diplomatic missions and international partners to see where collaboration genuinely fits, and to build a documented relationship from there.

International Cooperation FAQs
What kinds of international partners does Twende work with?
Diplomatic missions, international cooperation agencies, foundations, research institutions, conservation organisations and responsible businesses with a genuine interest in Africa’s blue carbon and ecosystem restoration agenda.
Does Twende currently have formal partnerships with specific embassies or governments?
We do not claim a formal diplomatic partnership unless it is documented and confirmed. Where a relationship is still developing, we describe it honestly as a direction we are building toward, not as an existing partnership.
How does international cooperation connect to Twende's Kenya-based work?
Kenya is Twende’s headquarters and an important implementation and policy-alignment platform, including alignment with Kenya’s own Blue Carbon Ecosystems NDC Implementation and Investment Plan. International cooperation is how that Kenya-based implementation experience connects to a wider African mandate.
What does technology transfer or a technical exchange look like in practice?
It can include shared monitoring methodology, training exchanges between research institutions, or access to technical tools and approaches already proven in Kenya’s own blue carbon science, adapted for use across Twende’s restoration sites.
How can an international partner start a conversation with Twende?
Through the contact details on this site. We are glad to discuss where a specific cooperation priority, whether research, technology, training or finance, fits with Twende’s current and planned programmes.
