We restore mangrove and coastal ecosystems on Kenya’s coast, run a six-month Training-of-Trainers programme in coastal enterprises and climate-smart cash crops, are gearing towards adopting highland and catchment forest with Kenya Forest Service, convene Africa’s civil-society and development ecosystem through The Global NGO Stakeholders Summit, and provide technical advisory on high-integrity carbon markets. See Our Blue Carbon Work for the full list of programmes.
Where does Twende Green Planet work?
We are an African organisation, registered and headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, with our restoration work concentrated on Kenya’s coast. Blue carbon and restoration

What is blue carbon?
Blue carbon refers to the carbon captured and stored by coastal and marine ecosystems, mainly mangroves, seagrass meadows and tidal wetlands. These ecosystems sequester carbon at rates many times higher than tropical forests, while also protecting coastlines and sustaining local fisheries and livelihoods.
Do you buy or sell carbon credits?
No. Twende Green Planet provides technical and partnership advisory on Africa’s carbon markets through our Blue Carbon Advisory & Consultancy programme; we do not currently operate as a credit trading intermediary.
How many mangroves have you planted, and how many are planned?

Our first activation set a target of 5,000 mangrove seedlings and reached 4,000. The first Blue Carbon Action (2–3 October 2026) planted and GPS-tagged 4,000 at Mtwapa. On 5 December, 70,000 seedlings are used in the mass planting at Kwetu Centre, Mtwapa, and any that remain are planted through the rest of the quarter, to 31 March 2027. Progress is reported on the Legacy Programme page as it happens.

Why are mangroves and seagrass important?

They store carbon, protect coastlines from storm surge and erosion, shelter the nurseries that sustain local fisheries, and create income for coastal communities. See Blue carbon explained.

What does zero-waste coastal action mean?

It is how we describe the shoreline clean-up during Blue Carbon Action: volunteers, rangers, communities and partners keep the coast free of waste. In December it takes place at Nyali, Mombasa, on Friday 4 December.

How do you track and report results?

Each restoration site is mapped, monitored and documented against agreed programme and funder requirements, with clear, regular reporting. See Impact & evidence.

Programmes

What programmes does Twende Green Planet run?
Six real programmes: Blue Carbon Quarterly Activation, Mangrove & Seagrass Restoration, Highland & Catchment Forest Restoration, the Coastal Enterprise & Cash Crop Trainers Programme, Blue Carbon Advisory & Consultancy, and The Global NGO Stakeholders Summit. Each has its own page under Our Blue Carbon Work.
How do I support a particular programme?

Choose a programme on the Support page, pick an amount in US dollars and pay by M-Pesa or card. You can also contact us to sponsor a restoration activation.

Events and the Summit

What is The Global NGO Stakeholders Summit?
The Global NGO Stakeholders Summit is Twende Green Planet’s flagship Pan-African convening platform, bringing together government, civil society, development partners and the private sector. It was held for the first time in June 2026, in Nairobi.
What is the Blue Carbon Action Legacy Programme: Civil Society, Business and Community Dinner and NGO Summit Awards?

It is Blue Carbon Action 2026 (Commit. Activate. Restore.), on 3–5 December 2026 on the Kenyan coast. On Thursday 3 December, the dinner and awards at Vipingo Ridge bring civil society, business and community together, with the NGO Summit Awards. On Friday 4 December, a beach clean-up and exhibition take place at Nyali, Mombasa. On Saturday 5 December, communities and partners plant mangroves at Kwetu Centre, Mtwapa, using 70,000 seedlings. See the event page.

When and where is the next NGO Summit?

The next Summit is in Kigali in the last week of June 2027. We will publish the venue and programme as soon as they are confirmed. The 2026 Summit was held in Nairobi, 24–26 June 2026. See the Summit.

Who were the speakers at the 2026 Summit?

Atlas

What is Atlas?

Atlas is our nature and climate intelligence platform for Africa, starting with blue carbon. It brings ecosystem maps, carbon projects, datasets and an AI analyst together on one map, and every number traces to its source. It opens at atlas.twende.green.

Do I need an account to use Atlas?

Registering takes about two minutes. Downloads and the API need institutional access, which you can request once you have an account.

How is Atlas connected to your restoration work?

Atlas is the evidence behind our work: it holds the maps and datasets we use to choose, monitor and report restoration sites. Read what Atlas does.

Blue Carbon Action 2026

Where is Blue Carbon Action 2026 held?

On the coast of Kenya, at three venues: the dinner and awards at Vipingo Ridge on Thursday 3 December, the beach clean-up and exhibition at Nyali, Mombasa, on Friday 4 December, and the community mangrove planting at Kwetu Centre, Mtwapa, on Saturday 5 December. See the venues page.

How can an organisation take part in Blue Carbon Action 2026?

Choose one of four levels: Entry (about USD 1,925), Anchor (about USD 3,850), Major (about USD 7,700) or Strategic (about USD 19,250 and above). Each funds mangrove seedlings GPS-tagged in your name and includes dinner seats, a stand, recognition and a place on planting day. Compare the levels side by side.

What is the difference between the Entry, Anchor, Major and Strategic levels?

Entry funds 2,500 seedlings with 2 Standard dinner seats and a smaller stand. Anchor funds 5,000 seedlings with 3 seats, a larger stand and a speaking slot. Major funds 10,000 seedlings with 5 seats, a premium double stand, a welcome from the stage, one award to present and a named planting zone. Strategic funds 25,000 seedlings or more with 10 seats including VIP and VVIP, a flagship stand with a partner lounge, presenting-partner status for the dinner and a ceremonial planting. See the full comparison.

What is the cheapest way for a company to take part in Blue Carbon Action 2026?

The Entry level, at about USD 1,925, funds 2,500 seedlings in your name and includes 2 dinner seats, a stand for three days, your logo on screen and in the programme, and a place on planting day. Every level funds a seedling at about USD 0.77, so a larger level is more of the same. You can move up at any time before 3 December.

How is the value of taking part measured?

We agree the measures with you before the event: seedlings planted and their survival at six months, checked with the Kenya Forest Service; visitors to your stand; decision-makers you met; colleagues who took part; media and social reach; and your contribution to the event results. You receive a Partner Activation Certificate, an Impact Report, a Commitment Wall record and a Media Coverage Archive. We do not claim carbon credits for the planting.

Who will be at Blue Carbon Action 2026?

We have invited national government, the six Coast county governments, banks, insurers and regulators, ports and logistics firms, universities, tourism and hospitality, manufacturers and waste and circular-economy enterprises, embassies led by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, development partners, communities, youth and media. We are targeting more than 1,000 participants on planting day, ten exhibition zones, six Coast counties and thirty or more strategic partners, and we will report the actual figures.

Can my company show a vehicle or product, or provide vehicles?

Yes. The higher levels include a stand large enough to show a vehicle, and we welcome buses for volunteers and student groups, trucks for the waste collected at the clean-up and pickups for seedlings and tools. Vehicle support is recognised separately from the contribution. Read about the showcase and mobility partnership.

What are the dinner seat categories?

Standard, Preferred, VIP and VVIP. VVIP seats are subject to protocol and to who attends on the night. Seats are allocated in the order of confirmation, and dinner seats are also available separately for directors, staff and guests.
