The Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) is Kenya’s national forestry research body, a Centre of Excellence in Forestry and Allied Natural Resources Research. Its Coast Eco-Region Research Programme is headquartered at Gede, inside Arabuko Sokoke Forest in Kilifi County, directly in Twende Green Planet’s own coastal restoration geography.

shared coastal geography

Shared Ground in Coastal Forest Research

  • Forest productivity and tree species domestication research relevant to Kenya’s coastal ecosystems
  • Mangrove research and coastal forest rehabilitation, the same restoration work Twende carries out on the ground
  • Tree seed and seedling supply, plus nursery management training, for coastal forestry development
  • Coverage across Kilifi, Mombasa, Lamu, Taita Taveta, Kwale and Tana River, the six coastal counties
why we name KEFRI here

Named for Shared Geography and Research Relevance

KEFRI’s Coast Eco-Region Research Programme covers the same coastal forest and mangrove research ground our own restoration work depends on. Twende Green Planet has no formal relationship with KEFRI at this stage; we name the institute here because its research is directly relevant to our own programme design, and we will report a working relationship here plainly if one develops.

  • KEFRI’s research findings and seedling supply inform good coastal restoration practice generally
  • Both organisations operate in the same six-county coastal research and restoration geography
  • A future working relationship, if it develops, would be reported here honestly, not assumed in advance
  • See our own Blue Carbon work for how this research informs our programmes
